 5 - 6 October 2026 | 9:30-13:30

Workshop Leader: Christian Koch, M.F.A.

Location: Prager Str.5, 99427 Weimar

Workshop Overview

Participants watch selected scenes from films such as "DO THE RIGHT THING" and then analyse them together with filmmaker Christian Koch.

The workshop is aimed in particular at young people and young adults. The central question is how cinematic techniques affect our feelings and perception, and in what ways they can be used to influence viewers.

Drawing on several film examples, different cinematic devices are examined and then discussed as a group. This includes how camera, editing, music, cinematography and dramaturgy can evoke particular emotions and steer our perception of a story or situation.

The aim of the workshop is to sharpen participants' awareness of how media content works and to strengthen their media literacy. Particular focus is placed on cinematic techniques, as these play a central role not only in traditional film but also in social media clips media content frequently consumed by young people in particular.

The workshop encourages participants to engage with media more consciously, to critically question how it is constructed, and to better understand the impact of audiovisual content.
