Yulia Ruditskaya | Director

Yulia Ruditskaya is a Brooklyn-based, award-winning animation director and multidisciplinary artist. Originally from Minsk, she continues her creative journey in New York. She has directed several award-winning animated short films, and her portfolio spans short films as well as work for feature films, documentaries, and television series. Alongside her filmmaking practice, Yulia teaches animation at the Department of Digital Arts at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY, and at CUNY.
Director Statement
The Hare is a short animated film inspired by a poem by Belarusian poet Valery Marakou, one of twenty-two poets and writers, and more than a hundred members of the Belarusian cultural intelligentsia, executed during Stalin’s purges in the Kurapaty Woods near Minsk.
Through poetic visual storytelling, the film interweaves the destinies of a hare fleeing for its life and a poet pursued by oppression. Their parallel journeys evoke the fragility of life and the enduring power of the creative spirit in the face of violence and erasure.
