Richard Bockholt | Director

Richard Bockholt is a freelance director and filmmaker who is currently studying "Time-based Arts (Film, Video)" at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle.
His debut feature film ASHES OF CARDS caused a stir in April 2022 in an interview for an MDR radio programme, as this project, sponsored by the Medienkulturzentrum Dresden and financed by crowdfunding on Startnext, was produced by young Dresden talents at the end of their school years.
The next feature film, ICH KENNE DEIN KIND, was shot during his first year at university.
His short film BLICKFANK was awarded third place by the jury at the Bünder Short Film Festival in 2023.
In addition to many short films, Richard Bockholt has made various advertising and image films, such as for the award-winning Swiss orchestra "Resonart Camerata".
Director Statement
The short film attempts to break the viewing habits of the male gaze and find new perspectives from the victim's point of view. ‘The Graduation’ was filmed over two days in September 2024 under the direction of Richard Bockholt and a ten-person film crew. Over 100 extras were cast for the impressive graduation ball scene.
