Hoàng Quỳnh Nguyễn | Director

Hoàng Quỳnh Nguyễn was born in Hanoi in 1997 and grew up in Rostock, where she first came into contact with filmmaking. In 2017, she moved to Berlin to study communication design, founded the Danish-German film festival "48h of Hygge" and finally her own production company "DEADSAID FILMS". Since 2023 she has been studying film directing at the Film University Babelsberg KONRAD WOLF.
Director Statement
LOSS OF ALTITUDE emerged from a place of speechlessness. From the ache of witnessing a political reality where injustice is no accident – it is systematic. And still, so many choose to look away. We wanted to make a film about exactly that gaze. What does it mean to be part of a system that dehumanizes – not in theory, but in practice? And how does that feel, up close, when it’s not abstract, but painfully personal? At its heart, LOSS OF ALTITUDE is a story about a relationship. But it is also a story about guilt, about silent complicity, about how love and betrayal can exist in the same breath. About what happens between two people when their silence becomes political. The world we show isn’t a distant dystopia. It’s a version of the present. The future in this film is not a metaphor – it’s a continuation of the reality many are already living. With deep respect for the realities this story touches, we wanted to create a space that doesn’t explain, but allows you to feel. To sit with discomfort. To look again – and maybe not look away.
