Roxana - a climate story
Description
In the Peruvian Amazon, many Indigenous communities still live without reliable access to electricity or the internet. At the same time, large fossil fuel projects cut through the region. In Alto Mishagua, this contradiction sets the backdrop for the story of Roxana.
When Roxana returns during the pandemic, her home feels more isolated than ever, and the warnings of the elders grow more urgent: their forest is changing, the rains are shifting, and life is becoming more uncertain.
Together with other young people, she begins to imagine a different future built on clean and independent energy.

Mathias is a passionate storyteller who has been part of film productions on several continents. As a climate pact ambassador for the European Union, he advocates for climate justice.
Tobias is a trained journalist and communications expert. He tries to explain complicated issues in comprehensible ways for various online formats - both in front of and behind the camera.
Tobias and Mathias studied in Stuttgart and Singapore and have a Master of Arts in Media Management. In addition to their freelance work, they have jointly launched the climate education project Climate Stories and collaborate on projects for the media collective Purpose Stories.
Director Statement:
We aim to highlight a contradiction that shapes the lives of many Indigenous communities in the Amazon today: resources are extracted from their land, while they remain excluded from basic services. With this film, we follow an extraordinary young woman who returns home in a search for solutions.
