Description

Two Italian operators working for "Watch The Med Alarm Phone" receive an emergency phone call from the central Mediterranean Sea. For about eleven minutes the operators
remain in contact with a man in danger and struggle to save the lives of one hundred migrants sinking on a rubber boat. The situation on board gets worse: the migrants fall into the water, the
boat sinks and the communication is interrupted. The destiny of the people on board remains a mystery. Maybe a ship will arrive to save them, maybe someone will die, maybe everyone will die.

Michele D'anca | Director

Actor, screenplayer and director. After graduating in acting at the Accademia Nazionale d’Arte Drammatica “Silvio D’Amico” in 1985, he worked for the most prestigious Italian theaters until 2001.
He works for important directors such as: Luca Ronconi, Peppino Patroni Griffi, Maurizio Scaparro, Marco Sciaccaluga, Giancarlo Sepe and Federico Tiezzi. Since 1998 he takes part of various fictions, Tv films and series produced and directed by
Giorgio Capitani, Michele Soavi, Maurizio Ponzi, Rossella Izzo co casting with actors such as Giancarlo Giannini, Gigi Proietti and Terence Hill.
He was part of the cast of the movie Li chiamarono briganti! by Pasquale Squittieri, shot in 1999.
After a long experience in television he collaborates as an actor with directors and movies for the Independent cinema and starts writing screenplays.
As a screenwriter he received in 2023 a Honorship Mention at the International award for Italian Contemporary Literature XI ed. For the screenplay and short movie Secchione! The same year, his
screenplay Distress Call wins the tender NUOVOIMAIE. He won the RIFF AWARDS 2023 - Rome Independent Film Festival – award for the best short film screeneplay with L’ultimo reporter, project that won the NUOVOIMAIE second session for short films and is now in pre-production.
The short film Distress Call is his first directorial debut.
